Big insurance is involved in the "harvesting" and "warehousing" of the private health information of individuals. The insurance industry has created a private insurance industry database accessible only by member insurers into which they place the harvested medical and health information. The database is known as "ISO," aka the Insurance Service Organization. The ISO boasts that its ClaimSearch database includes information on more than 470 million "claims" and that "users are submitting more than 150,000 new claims a day." Insurers submit medical, health and insurance claim information through their own claims systems or through a web interface developed by ISO. Notably, the ISO does not discuss anywhere that the millions of individuals involved have not consented to this use of their personal health information.
